Baderman Island Resort The Baderman Island Resort is a luxury style resort whom depends on its elite location, all-inclusive accommodations, and cultural attractions to catch the attention of its guests. Boardman Management Group is responsible for the operations of three hotels, several restaurants, two gift shops, a golf pro shop, and a spa. Baderman Island Resort attracts events such as company retreats, conventions, expositions, and family or couple vacations; which happen to be the key of growth for the resort.To assure the attraction and maintain revenue, the resort in combination with its staff must be able to provide a luxurious environment for its recreational guests and a world-class environment for its business clientele. This paper will present recommendations to improve the environment at Baderman Island Resort. Creating Alliance Baderman Island knows that their internal and external stakeholders; their employees and their guests, are the most valuable people for keeping their business a success.There are always ways to improve a business and they understand that. So the first strategy recommended for Baderman Island would be to reduce workplace stressors. Role stressors, workload, work-family conflict, job insecurity, and organizational constraints are a few workplace stressors. Some specific stressors for Baderman Island employees could be that they feel overwhelmed since there is so much future development being planned, as well as never having a quiet calm workplace since tourists are always visiting.There are ways to reduce stressors though. â€Å"Organizational efforts to reduce the impact of job-related stressors generally take one of five forms: (1) stress management training, (2) reduction of stressors, (3) alternative work schedules and telecommuting, (4) family-friendly benefits, and (5) health and fitness programs† (Jex, 2008, p. x). Having a stress management program would be very helpful for Baderman Island employees, so they c an be educated in the nature of stress and its effects.Since this is a resort destination, the company could offer family-friendly benefits by offering a weekend where employees and their families are invited to enjoy the island and its amenities together at no cost. Health and fitness programs are another reducer of stressors, so Baderman Island could offer the golf course and spa at discounted rates to their employees. Offering the Hot Stone Massage for $50 rather than $115 could definitely benefit the employees.A second strategy recommended to Baderman Island to create alliances between the company and their employees and customers would be to motivate employees with different types of goals. The goals would have to do with the customers. For example, Baderman Island could start sending out surveys when people depart from the island asking for feedback and the goal would be to receive a certain amount of high customer satisfaction. This would not only assure that the customers ar e enjoying their time on the island, but also motivating the employees to be hard and helpful workers.Jex (2008) explains the three main reasons that goals have motivational value: Directs employee’s attention and effort in a particular direction, avoid being sidetracked by maintaining task persistence, and facilitate the development of task strategies, which could mean employees coming up with innovative ideas to reach the goals (p. x). Meaning this is a win-win situation for Baderman Island, its employees, and the guests. Leadership versus management differences A leader is a person who leads whereas a manager is on who manages. A leader is to motivate people.Manager is given powers by the company and the subordinates and they have to do as they are told. There is a difference within them both. Managers think incrementally, leaders think radically. Managers tend to do everything by the book and with leaders the just go with the flow. BMG hire managers that are experienced i n their field. They also look and hire people that have new ideas and the visions for the island, that way they don’t have the necessary experience. The resort is managed by the Boardman Management Group (BMG) who is responsible for various strategic functions.The CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board of Resort Management, and works closely with the Resort Board of Directors and supervises the relationship between Baderman Island Resort and the Boardman Resort Management Boardman Management Group (BMG) is responsible for handling the following departments resort-wide: †¢ Regulatory †¢ Finance/Accounting (Consolidated Statements) †¢ Legal †¢ Marketing †¢ IT Services Each unit is headed by a General Manager that reports to the Vice President, that handles all locations within their specified areas. Lodging: Main Hotel, The Tenney, Melancon Convention Hotel †¢ Convention: Convention center building and meeting rooms. †¢ Food Services: All re staurants and kiosks †¢ Merchandising: All hotel shops and visitor center shops †¢ Recreation and Activities: Visitor center, golf, pro shop, beach activities, botanical garden. †¢ Engineering/Transportation: Maintenance and repair, housekeeping, transportation, building upkeep, ferry, train Each unit is considered a profit center, except for Engineering and Transportation, and is responsible for their own budget and overall profitability and growth.Each SBU is charged back for the service utilized from Engineering/Transportation. With in the Baderman Island Resorts the managers of each area can also be good leaders to lead their employees to perform the highest customer service. They would also have to appoint some one as a crew leader. A manager needs to be formal authority or management to be really effective. Having a set crew leader for each area of the resort that way the employees have someone to come to with issues instead of going directly to the manager.If t he leader isn’t able to help or answer their questions or problems then the leader would have to go to the manager for management response. Environmental Proposal Baderman Island resort and spa has created a destination desired by worldwide travelers. The vacation atmosphere is visually created by the brick and mortar presence of the lighthouse, hotel, botanical gardens, and island. The vacation experience is created by Baderman Island employees.Baderman Island management wants to create a corporate environment that acculturates supportive team function and learning while empowering sustainable innovation and creativity. To promote team-oriented behavior throughout the Baderman Island corporate culture several recommendations are presented. Each department within the organization will be considered a team. To begin, create recognition and reward systems highlighting and promoting the team. Suggestions and recommendations to innovate, develop, and improve services and systems throughout the organization will be recognized at the team evel. If a team’s suggestion results in an implemented policy or program, it will be named after the team that made the suggestion. The rationale for naming the policy or program after the proposing team is the elevated sense of contribution to the organization’s core function bestowed upon the team. Teams will enjoy worldwide recognition for suggestions implemented to improve organizational relations with the local community, organic farmers, or botanical organizations.To create an environment that encourages and rewards innovation and creativity, any team suggestion implemented that create corporate efficiencies that can be calculated as a savings will be remunerated as a spiff to the suggesting team members as long as they are with the organization. The spiff will be 2% of the corporate savings to the team up to $50,000 annually, and 1% of corporate saving to the team if the spiff exceeds $50,000 with no max imum. To encourage individuals’ participation within team structures each team will be able to put individual members on probation, with cause.Management will be required to review team members put on probation to make a move or remove determination. Teams will collectively have the discretion for individuals’ movement between teams to empower teams to elevate morale. The corporation’s international customers will be better serviced by employees who know French and Spanish. Employees will be encouraged to expand their individual repertoire and receive a $500 spiff for learning French or Spanish and pass a language test. Team participation will be encouraged with a $10,000 team spiff when all team members learn French and Spanish and pass a language test.To build corporate buy-in and develop employee knowledge a $500 spiff will be given to employees learning two sister teams’ role, function, and responsibilities and passing a test. To encourage intra-team collaboration a $10,000 team spiff will be awarded when all team members learn two sister teams’ role, function, and responsibilities. Conclusion The alliance created between Baderman Island Resort, the employee, and their clientele are the key to success for the all-inclusive, luxury resort.Baderman Island Resort will prosper in growth and revenues as a result of the satisfaction of all entities responsible. Throughout the recommendations, job satisfaction and customer satisfaction are the basis for success. When the entities believe they are a key to the success, they are more willing to participate in the recommendations. We have made several recommendations on how to improve the environment of Baderman Island Resort and these recommendations now lie within the decisions of the management team.

Clerk & Squire Contrast “The Canterbury Tales” Essay

In Chaucer’s â€Å"The Canterbury Tales,† two young men of the Middle Ages, stand in sharp contrast to each other. The clerk and the squire are of similar ages but are very different. The clerk is a member of the middle class, has attended Oxford and studied Aristotle, while the squire, a member of the upper class, has been educated in the arts of chivalry. In appearance wise the clerk is a â€Å"grave† or somber individual. He is thin â€Å"hollow-cheeked† and dresses poorly (â€Å"outer cloak threadbare†). On the other hand the squire is a bright, cheerful person. He is lusty, strong and nimble and dresses extravagantly â€Å"red and white embroidery; short coat with long wide sleeves.† His facial appearance is similar to his dress habits, his hair is curled and he is very handsome. The two differ in personality as well. The clerk is formal and modest when he speaks and he only speaks (gives his input) if it is needed. He is also considerate of others, â€Å"pray diligently for the souls of them that gave him wherewith to stay at the schools† and his speech is of moral virtue. The royalty of the squire was apparent in his personality. He is courteous, modest and helpful to others. His royal roots show that he is a respectable man and in his youthful state, he is full of energy. Finally, we can see that the two have very different interests. The clerk is interested in lectures on logic, reading Aristotle and studying Philosophy. He also loves to learn and teach and convey his knowledge to others. The squire is engulfed with the many campaigns/battles of the country and loves jousting in his spare time. He also enjoys singing, playing the flute, riding horses, making songs, dancing drawing and writing. The squire’s royalty shows through his interests because the middle class would not have the time or resources to commit to these interests. The portrait of the clerk and the squire in â€Å"The Canterbury Tales† shows two men of similar age; in the same time frame, â€Å"The Middle Ages†. We learn that the two are very different in appearance, personality and interests. This can be attributed to the fact that they grew up in different classes. The clerk in the â€Å"Middle Class† and the squire in the â€Å"High Class†, in this time  frame classes molded how an individual grew and learned. Chaucer shows in his novel how two individuals can be the same in some ways but very different in others.

Naked Vs Nude in Reference to Artwork Essay - 712 Words

There is no difference between the words naked and nude, in my opinion the words are pretty much interchangeable. The only thing that is different is how one interprets the words. A nude or naked body can be represented in a variety of ways. Most people will use the word naked when referring to a body presented in an arousing or sexual way, naked has a raw connotation, whereas many people use the word nude when referring to a body presented in an artistic way, which focuses on the form and shape of the body. I believe that it is the presentation of the naked or nude body that makes the difference, not which word is chosen to describe it. Songs Draw Strength, Courage, and Wisdom from Poems

There are many times when song lyrics draw inspiration from poems. In many situations song writers get ideas for music through poems seeing as most are written on life experiences or events. It is evident that the poem, â€Å"The Ballad of Birmingham† written by Dudley Randall and the song â€Å"Strength, Courage, and Wisdom† written by India Arie have numerous similarities. These two works are about people who exemplify strength, courage, and wisdom. Even though both of these works were created in different time periods, they still convey the same meaning. The characteristic of strength is found during the course of these two works of poetry. In stanza one of â€Å"The Ballad of Birmingham†,† Mother dear, may I go downtown Instead of out to play, And march the streets of Birmingham In a Freedom March today ( 1-4 Randall)?† An African American child is pleading to her mother to allow her to march for the rights of all African American citizens. This statement alone, coming from a young child, is a powerful statement of inner strength. We also see the similar statement within the first stanza of a song by India Aria which states, â€Å"It’s time to step out on faith, I’ve gotta show my face It’s been elusive for so long, but freedom is mine today (A-Z Lyrics).† Even without entirely saying it, the lyrics of the song and the words of the poem both refer to having enough strength to stand up for their freedom. Introduction According to (Sullivan, 2013) Google has shifted into the top 3 most valuable firms in the world. Google’s success can be credited because of their successful human management, the result of using â€Å"people analytics† in their human resources management (Sullivan, 2013). Google is a technological firm, which requires new innovation, and Google has found a way to spike innovation in their employees by using people management (Sullivan, 2013). Customer: There is an interface for customers with name customer home-page. The interface contains buttons to update information. When update button is clicked it will display a screen that will use to save the updated records of customers. Customer information includes name, address, phone, email, DOB and license type. Name, address, email, DOB and license type will be entered as a string. Phone number would contain only numbers. When record will be added successfully, it will prompt a message that will inform user that record is updated successfully. If at any time, database doesnt save record successfully, then system will display a message that Record not saved. Delete Records Screen: There is a screen developed in the system. This screen is used to delete the records. The screen has functionality to delete customers records, employee records, new vehicle records, TradeIn vehicle records, sales invoices records and tax invoices records. This screen contains only button that will navigate user to the particular screen. Edit Employee: There is an edit screen to update the records of the employee in the system. The system has functionality to update the record that has been added. On clicking the button system will open a window that contains fields related to the employee information. System will prompts user to select id, and enter name, phone, email and address. User will click on update record button to save the updated record in the data base. On successful update system will show a message that Record Saved. If record is not saved successfully, then system will show a message that Record not saved. Edit new vehicle: system has a screen that is used to edit new vehicle record. When user clicks on edit button, it will show fields related to vehicle. System will ask user to select id of the vehicle which user wants to edit, serial number of vehicle, model, year, manufacturer, base price and registration details. When user will enter all the require fields and will click edit record button. System will update the record in the database. On successful attempt, system will display a message that Record saved and if the attempt fails at any point then system will display a message that Record not saved. Edit TradeIn vehicle: System has a screen for edit TradeIn vehicle information. On clicking edit button, system will display fields that are required for record updation. System will display fields like user will select vehicle id, serial number, model, year, manufacturer, base price, registration details, TradIn customer id, TradeIn date and allowance. After filling data in required fields, user will click on update record button. On successful action, system will display a message that Record saved and on unsuccessful action, there will be a message that Record not saved. Edit Records: There is a screen available in the system that has buttons to update all the records according to the category. When user clicks in Edit record button it will display a screen. The screen has all the buttons like edit customer records, edit employee records, edit new vehicle record, edit TradeIn vehicle records, edit sales invoice and edit tax invoice records. On clicking button, specific screen will be displayed. Employee: There is a screen in the system that has fields required to add employee data. Required fields include name, address, phone number and email. User will fill the required data and click on save button. When an action is performed successfully, a message will be displayed Save Record. Employee Home-Page: There is a screen developed in the system, which is named as Employee Home-page. This interface have buttons create vehicles, create options, edit/delete options, create sales invoice. The buttons can perform the functionality related to the screens. On clicking these buttons, system will navigate the user to the required screen to perform actions accordingly. Manager: Manager Screen is used to add managers information. Manager information includes name, address, phone number and email. System will display a message on successfully adding record. New vehicle: system gives option to add a new vehicle. On clicking add new vehicle button system will ask user to enter serial number, year, price, model, manufacturer and registration details. When record is added successfully in the system then system will show a success message Options: there is a screen available in the system that is used to enter options in the system, the system will ask user to add option code, description and price in the system. Trade In: System has a screen related to TradeIn. This screen has serial number, year, base price, model, manufacturer, registration details, customer ID, and trade in date and trade in allowance fields. These fields are required to save vehicle TradeIn information in the system. Update user: update user screen is used to update record of the users. This screen consists of ID, username, address, phone number, email and DOB fields. It will help user to update his information. Summary: HTV Sales System is developed to fulfill all the requirements as per clients request. System has ability to manage records related to their company. This system will replace the older system and it has more functions. System is developed according to the requirements of clients and company.

The Effect of Heat and Growth on the Survival of Bacteria free essay sample

Aims The purpose of the two experiments was to determine the fundamental effects that temperature has on the growth and survival of bacteria. During the first experiment five different bacterial broth cultures of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Enterococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus stearothermophilus were individually incubated at temperatures of 5, 25, 37, 45 and 55Â °C for one week in an aim to distinguish the effect temperature has on growth and survival of the five different species. After one week they were observed for distinguishable changes by the turbidity showing an indication of bacterial growth, or the clarity an indication of no survival. The second part of the experiment was to examine the effect temperature had on the survival ability of the five bacteria mentioned above. One of the five bacterial species were allocated per work bench for individuals to create broth culture with and expose to temperatures of 40, 60, 80 and 100Â °C for 2, 5, 30 and 90 minutes.
